In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

  1. الي يموت يحطون عند اسمه اوف لاين هههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههه

  2. Did he seriously just mention fixing global warming? So apparently with IOT we must all subscribe to the same religious perspectives as well?

  3. okay so we are going to have a person everything on earth, installing sensors on them and establishing databases for all this. so much effort with so much useless information.

  4. Very interesting, Dr. John made this topic very smooth we all can tell he is passionate about it. However this reminds me to the Jhonny Deep movie, "Trascender", watch it. I just hope the ads can be avoided and that we can still select our privacy settings, and most of all, every time my health insurance increases that my salary increases too!

  5. OH MY! "If I know where the citizens of my smart city are, what they are up to, what their health is..." "I can look after the INDIVIDUAL health, safety and security of all MY citizens." "In the interest of better society" This is the scary kind of verbiage i worry about. Does this guy even hear himself?!

  6. You'll be surrounded by 3000 to 5000 "smart" things. See the real problem here is they are not "smart" at all. They spy well and do exactly as instructed. That's not smart. I think discretion is a measure of intelligence. Or wisdom. 3000 or 5000 spies all around me? that's far worse than George Orwell could have imagined. The founders understood this even in their low tech era and required archaic devices such as subpoenas and search warrants. Not anymore. Listen to my phone calls and have my box fan spy on me. My hot water heater will report me for taking extravagant showers. I'm glad I'm old.

  7. Wait ... the network of artificial intelligence is going to allocate resources to everyone according to their need!? And that will eliminate strife and create a utopia? Sounds great Karl.

  8. OMG - He likens all of society to a panopticon where all the "inmates" are observed 24/7 without even knowing they are being observed and his concern is an advertisement on his smart phone. Seriously - his concern is an ad on his smart phone. THATS the down side. Targeted advertising is the "major intrusion?!"

  9. If people's indifference to the reality of what is really going on in the world could be transformed into energy, we'd have enough power to stop this madness.

  10. This sounds fine and dandy, except in the current way the governments are evolving I fear it will become Big Brother Delux edition...
